I've visited Belgium's Bruges numerous times over recent years and I've no doubt that I'll be continuing the pattern with more trips in the near future, as it is just such an unusual and overall pleasant place to be! During this trip, I stayed with a family member at the stylish Crowne Plaza Hotel based right in the city centre and as usual, we were hugely impressed by both the service and the decor of the hotel. The hotel's car park was quite tight, so I was really pleased that I wasn't the one attempting to park the car as parking really isn't my forte! What I love most about staying in hotels that are primarily directed towards business stays, is that you know exactly what to expect, so that you can both free and relax your mind to make the most out of your trip! Although I probably should have been more impressed at the technological benefits of staying in a luxurious hotel, being a female (excuse the stereotype) means that I will forever be more impressed at the yummy smelling toiletries that are available in the bathrooms.. and yes, I took them all home with me.
Although the weather was generally very warm and sunny, on one day during the late afternoon, the heavens literally opened and I was drenched within twenty seconds! However, this type of weather is beyond perfect when combined with an intense humidity - don't you agree?! Anyway, that's exactly what I got! Each time I would step out of a shop and back onto the high street, I was surrounded by thunder, covered in heavy rain drops and hit with a wall of humidity! Yay! I was wearing a ditsy floral print dress with my Dune Finchy Sandals and I am super relieved to say that both somehow survived the torrential downpour!
As a general rule, there was literally no general rule for clothing seen during my short city break. It's fun to focus on fashion and styling techniques, watching the latest collections walk down the runway and read up on all the blogs to see what's trending, but in all honesty it can be a little refreshing to find yourself in a place where anything goes. I'm beginning to wonder whether that's why I so enjoy visiting tourist areas in Europe. Having said that, absence really does make the heart grow fonder, so show me some more of those Wimbledon Whites, pastel sheer skirts and statement necklaces!
Right now, I would do anything to be back walking through the warm streets of Bruges, slinking in and out of Belgium boutiques or sat enjoying a huge meal whilst people watching.. as you can probably tell from my recent posts (both the delicious chicken dinner and Dune Finchy Sandals posts' photos were taken in Belgium)!
However, I suppose for now I'll have to just appreciate the slightly warmer weather that England is experiencing! Speaking of which, I'll have a lot more time to enjoy it this summer considering my family hasn't got around to planning a holiday for this season. So whilst I'm dabbing the tears away from my eyes, I'll be surviving on other people's short city break and holiday photos this summer! So, for purely selfish reasons, I'm sincerely hoping you've all got some fabulous holidays lined up and remember to take your cameras along with you for the ride!
Part Two of my Belgium break to follow soon!
