RHS Garden, Wisley

I've worked out that I favour 'extremes' when it comes to the weather.  I like either torrential rain, inches upon inches of snow, gale force winds, or heat waves.  Needless to say, my winning vote goes to heat waves and mainly due to living in the UK - it's very much a case of wanting what I don't have!  Having said that, this weekend brought the first taste of spring and although there may not have been high temperatures that warrant new-season bikini shopping, there was sunshine, a double-digit temperature and a soft breeze.  It was this beautiful spring-time combination that saw me embark on the journey to RHS Garden, Wisley..

Possibly the best egg mayonnaise sandwich I've ever had in my life!
Coincidentally, there was actually a 'Spring Plant Fair' being held at the time I visited, however considering I know as much about specific flowers as I do rugby, I only briefly visited that (and with a dazed look slapped on my face) for the sake of my mum, before moving on to duck-spot.  I have to say, they were incredibly entertaining and as you can tell from the below photo, rather brazen!  Thankfully, I managed to get a photo of them making their bread demands before they waddled back into the glistening lake behind.

I mentioned recently on Instagram that 'every day seems to be a leather jacket day' and here I am proving it!  When the weather is unpredictable during transitional seasons, leather jackets can prove to be a foolproof way of approaching the day - just don't ask me what I would have done had I got caught in the rain!

There really is something very tranquil and relaxing about duck-infused lakes, I have a feeling it has something to do with watching the ducks' pattern of aggressively approaching humans for snacks before returning to steady paddling after inevitable rejection.  Anyway, once I'd finished basking in the sun and admiring the glistening lake, I went in search of daffodils because after all, it's not spring without them!

Although I've visited the RHS Garden before, I had never ventured into the impressively large Glasshouse until this weekend.  With a height of 40ft and three climatic zones (recreating tropical, moist temperature and dry temperature habitats), The Glasshouse boasts an array of beautiful colours and features, with the waterfall being the most captivating of all.  I don't like the idea of relating mesmerising running water to ducks, but they both seem to share the quality of being impossibly fascinating!

This was one of those spots that you just never want to leave and for some reason or other, it brought back many happy memories for me.  My mind was flooded with previous holidays in the South of France, Disneyworld Florida's Animal Kingdom and theme parks visited on hot summer's days.  Eventually, I managed to tear myself away from the tropical setting of The Glasshouse, although I don't know how I would have done so if it wasn't for the fudge that I knew lay ahead at the RHS Garden shop!

With love,

Gabrielle x
