If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that last week I travelled to Champneys Henlow Health Resort to spend a few days there and although I was hoping to come away feeling relaxed, I don't think I could have anticipated just how relaxed I would be when leaving the resort. After a discussion late last year with my mum revealed she had never been on a spa break, I booked us in for a springtime break to enjoy together! Fast forward to last week and we were driving towards Henlow in 25.5°C (the hottest day of the year so far) with our 2pm check-in time in sight..
From the very beginning, the health resort had ease and tranquility in mind, providing a Premier Guest Parking space just metres away from the building's entrance - which worked out perfectly considering how heavy my suitcase was! I should mention before continuing that I arranged for us to stay in a Premier room to make our stay that little bit more special, meaning my experience may differ in some ways to others. When visiting Champneys Henlow, you can choose to stay in a standard, superior, premier room or suite, with each offering different qualities to guests.

Although when checking in we were sent the wrong way by a member of staff, when we eventually found our room fifteen minutes later, it was more than worth the wait. The Premier Room itself was like a breath of fresh air, with a beautiful aroma hitting the senses as soon as the door was opened. The decor was beautiful, intricate and the spitting image of the photo shown on their website. The dressing table area was particularly striking with the elaborate gold-framed mirror and 'Service en Chambre' box providing drinks such as peppermint tea. Complementary bottled water and fresh fruit was available in the room, as well as plenty of stationery, slippers, flip flops and my favourite, Champneys-branded sports bottles!

Not long after settling into the room, we made our way downstairs to a Waiting Room for our Premier Consultation (read more about the Premier Service here). In the space of approximately twenty-five minutes, we were shown around the health resort and had many questions answered - all super important things of course, such as whether room service is available for breakfast?! The answer was yes and so with relief at being able to roll out of bed and enjoy deliciously healthy breakfasts during our stay without even leaving the comfort of our room, we ventured back upstairs to unpack!
I had pre-arranged for us both to have only one treatment on the day we arrived at Champneys Henlow, both as a way of easing us into our stay, as well as providing an opportunity to take the afternoon/evening at a slower pace. Rather incredibly, we found that Premier guests have their own treatment waiting area that provides fresh juice, fruit, reading material and comfortable seating to ensure total tranquility. Our chosen treatment for the day, the Champneys' Head in the Clouds, was absolute bliss and comprised of a shoulders, neck and head massage that aims to release tension. Mission accomplished! Due to the massage oil and balms applied, you're advised to wash your hair afterwards, however before doing so, we took a moment to soak up the relaxing atmosphere of the conservatory with some light snacks. I opted for a tasty gluten-free chocolate chip muffin and sparkling cranberry juice - I can assure you they're delicious, however if you're looking to indulge in a triple-chocolate gateau then you should probably steer clear of health resorts!

After washing my hair (with brilliant water pressure - it only took three minutes for my long locks!) and smiling at the thought of having just roamed around a health resort in only a dressing gown, I purchased another sparkling cranberry juice from the on-site coffee shop and returned to the room for some light reading. With a bit of team effort, we managed to open the window to let in a gentle springtime breeze, before spending the late afternoon admiring the spectacular view from the two window seats in our room.
I hope you've enjoyed the first instalment of my Champneys Henlow Health Resort break, the second part will be available to read in a couple of days from now!
