Clarins Instant Concealer (01)

First of all, a huge thank you to all those who have wished me a Happy Birthday over recent days - I really appreciate it!  Secondly, whoa.  I had only just wrapped my head around the idea of being twenty-one.. and now I'm twenty-two!  If we're being honest, although the general consensus is that growing older is a bad thing, I can't say I mind all that much.  On the one hand I can understand how the mindset came about with regard to heightened pressure for achieving, however on the other, I can't help but place more faith in a quotation I stumbled across a while ago.

''Do not regret growing older.  It is a privilege denied to many''

Anyway, with age in mind, now would seem like the appropriate time to mention Clarins Instant Concealer and preferably before I'm caught attempting to write this product review on my deathbed.  I've been using the concealer for over three months, ever since receiving an email from a nearby department store letting me know they had it in stock (the hunt was real).  I was tempted to review it within a week of using it, however thought better of that when I realised it'd be a far better test to see how the concealer fared with the varying quality of my skin over a three month period.

After having remained loyal to Estée Lauder's Double-Wear Concealer for over a year, I began to question why after noticing it would crack and age my skin quite drastically after just a few hours.  The Instant Concealer by Clarins is marketed as a 'fatigue-fighting, smoothing and long-wearing concealer'.  With this in mind, I placed both intrigue and hope in Clarins' concealer as I have always loved makeup that enhances natural features as opposed to covering them entirely.  The product's claim of 'masking the colour of dark circles while restoring the skin's natural tone' is entirely truthful, no matter how little sleep I've managed to get or how busy I've been, the concealer manages to make me appear bright-eyed.  Take into consideration my love of late-night horror films and you can understand why I'm such a fan of the product!
Needless to say, concealer isn't for dark circles alone.  On the occasions when I had a few spots appear on my chin here and there, I found the Instant Concealer covered them up far more effectively than any other concealer I've tried before.  Speaking as someone who used to suffer from acne, if you're really uncomfortable with your skin, take a trip to your doctor to see what tablets/gels could be available to you ( it's very much a case of 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure').  However, if it's simply a matter of a pesky spot here and there, you have got to try Clarins Instant Concealer!

One more thing before I go and finish off my birthday cake.. speaking as a pale girl, if you're pale and struggling to find a concealer that doesn't draw attention to where you've used it, this is a total godsend - I use shade 01.

Shade 01 Clarins Instant Concealer applied to right-hand side of bare arm

With love,

  2. Happy Birthday Gabrielle! May 22 be a fantastic year filled with much magic, love and adventure for you! You are already wiser about beauty than I ever was at your age. I think I still didn't grasp the importance of concealer back then but I know now it crucial to have a good one especially one that will effectively cover up dark circles which is what I mainly use concealer for. This one from Clarins sounds like a real winner.

Anyway, this product sounds wonderful! Late night horror films aren't exactly my preference, but I do love a good late night movie, haha. I also get pesky acne spots a lot so this sounds perfect for the job! We do get Clarins here so I think I may have to go get it now!

  13. This is a fantastic review for someone like me. I have very pale skin being a natural redhead and finding a concealer which doesn't overpower my complexion but still works as a cover-up is a bit of a struggle. I end up having to test out all of the palest shades, and have only really stuck to powder up until recently so this is great advice! Also, Happy Belated Birthday wishes to you Gabrielle! 1. It's great to hear from someone else who loves this concealer! Your idea of using it as a light foundation is a fabulous one, I hadn't thought of that :)

  69. I've been using the Estee Lauder Double Wear too and noticing that the formula is starting to crack a little... I love Clarins products (mainly for mascaras) so I don't know why I haven't tried this yet. x

    1. Someone has suggested it's how skin changes over time, so that may well be the case as I'm experiencing the same. Let me know how you get on with Clarins if you try this concealer!

  70. A belated happy birthday!! I like Clarins' products (especially the hand cream) but I haven't tried the concealer yet. A good concealer is a real life saver. I've been trying a lot of different ones through the years, but I've never found the perfect match, so I usually just use the BB Cream from Smashbox, which is almost concealer-like, but maybe I should give Clarins a try? :)

  73. Hi Gabrielle,

I super love Clarins, I find their products have such great tactile experience, due to their pleasant scent and natural kind of smell, until I learnt about some harmful chemicals which I do find in most other major skincare brands. So, now I am not a user of Clarins products. It is too bad, actually, for I truly love love love and enjoyed it tremendously before.

I hope more big skincare brands like Clarins can look into better chemical-free alternative ingredients to make their products safer. Having said that, sometimes, it's really hard to avoid. We can only try our best.

Thanks for sharing this though. Lovely.

    Cheers,
    Jeann

    1. Hey Jeann! Their soft and pleasant scents certainly make the process of using them all the more enjoyable. It's a pity to hear about the harmful chemicals, though to date I've always been very impressed by Clarins products :)
