After a forty minute taxi journey from the airport to the central-located hotel, the warm and welcoming reception staff made our arrival that little bit sweeter. Good news was delivered in the form of a room upgrade, followed by a thorough explanation of the city's map - within five minutes, distances were pinpointed and calculated for us to determine how many of the items on our hit list could be seen in the time we had. I could have been health-conscious and taken the stairs, though after an hour and a half spent waiting/locating my luggage at Rome's Fiumicino airport.. I was all for an easy life and walked wearily in the direction of the lift!
Before even unpacking, I took the opportunity to freshen up in the hotel room's bathroom (anyone else obsess over complimentary toiletries provided by hotels?) before speedily changing out of my jeans and into a maxi dress. Arriving in the late afternoon allowed us the opportunity to head out and explore straight away, so I did my absolute best not to wrap myself in one of the super-cosy dressing gowns provided and crash out on the spacious bathroom floor..
Angelino ai Fori is quite possibly now my favourite restaurant in Rome; there was a beautiful breeze throughout the outdoor seating area that allowed me to finally cool down, the staff were lively and the food was beyond delicious.

Dinner was followed by a warm, mid-evening brief walk back towards the Colosseum through busy streets. Although I've seen the Colosseum both from outside and within on a few occasions in the past, I'd never seen it before at sunset. It's sheer size, architecture and famous reputation left me standing still and staring at it for what seemed like an eternity. Some things really are too beautiful to put into words..

UNA Hotel Roma. A cheery greeting from each member of staff at reception and a refreshing blast of air conditioning greeted us back to the hotel, once again making us feel very much welcome.
All that remained to do from this point onwards, was to somehow muster up the energy to return to our beautiful hotel room and unpack. After a serious amount of procrastinating, I worked my way through a pack of Haribo purchased from the convenience store across the road as I unpacked my suitcase. Fast forward half an hour and all that was left to do was to fall blissfully asleep with thoughts of gelato and sunshine, along with an excitement for what the next day may bring!
