Of all the shops in London, Fortnum & Mason is undoubtedly one of my favourites to visit come Christmastime. We've already established I'm quick to form traditions, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise when I say that each year I pop in to create 'treat boxes' of delicious sweets and fudge in the Food Hall for my direct family and a couple of my closest friends to enjoy. I'm lucky most people I know have a sweet tooth, as I'm not convinced I'd be as good at selecting cubes of cheese as I am clotted cream fudge...
There's something very magical about Fortnum & Mason throughout the festive season and never more so than at night; it begins with the illuminated exterior luring you into the busy, colourful window displays. You're then met by the Food Hall on the ground floor, featuring Christmas decorations at every turn (never without sprinklings of golden glitter) and more Christmas trees than you can shake a stick at on every floor.
Fortunately, the department store is luxurious in nature the other eleven months of the year as well and so everything contributes to the festive atmosphere come December; chandeliers, sweeping stairways and red-suited-staff members. I visited fairly early in the evening this year, however thankfully spent so long deliberating over presents for my mum from the calm gift department (first floor and up), that I missed most of the crowds. As nighttime arrives, it becomes much more peaceful to sweep through the extensive Food Hall and pick up the things you need (and uh, don't need!) before heading out. Speaking of which, I went straight on to the fabulous Kew Royal Botanic Gardens for Christmas at Kew 2015, so anticipate many photos from that one mile illuminated walk at some point next week!
Anyway, I didn't make it out of the store without a few treats for myself as well as those on my list, so before I'm preoccupied with the box of Rose Turkish Delight sitting next to me... I'll wish you all a VERY Merry Christmas!!
