See You Soon, Linen

ways to style linen summer
The question is, at what point do we allow the linen pieces from our wardrobes to start making appearances? Throughout the four seasons, most materials are fairly content with being adjusted to suit the weather/occasion, however I'm not convinced the same can be said for linen.  The cloth-woven material has something undeniably fresh about it, to the extent of it seeming only 'appropriate' once the sun is shining and the gloves have been stored away.  With this in mind, I'm (definitely) jumping the gun by a month or so, but I can't wait any longer - I'm bringing out the linen!

british female fashion blogger 2016I have fond childhood memories of my mum collecting me from school (often with a cooler box of ice creams) in her linen dresses, something that would indicate the 'beginning' of summer.  With this in mind, it's no surprise as to why the material has positive connotations for me!  I picked up this drawstring-waist white jacket while in France quite some time ago and yet never got around to wearing it.  It may not be warm enough to wear it right now, certainly not when the sun chooses to hide behind the clouds, but as the warmer springtime mornings make more regular appearances - I'm ready and waiting, armed with linen!

ways to style linen in summerFingers crossed I'm not the only one who sees linen in such a warm light; I adore the feel of it against my skin and most importantly, the seasons it represents!  So tell me, do any materials have the same effect on you?

  1. I'm absolutely loving your linen jacket, I'm going to be on the hunt for something similar! I think it's got such a lovely design even though it's quite simple. It's autumn here so I'm looking forward to bringing out my winter hats!

  2. Linen is great but not so much for days when there's colder breeze even though it's spring already. I guess it's good for layering too.

  3. You look so pretty in your linen jacket Gabrielle! I totally agree that it is such a summery fabric and I also have fond memories of my Mum in her linen dresses, actually, she still gets her linen pants out as soon as the sun shines! I need to invest in this fabric more :) Also, how fabulous do your legs look in these jodphurs?! Jealous!

  4. When I think of linen it reminds me of those really old summer fashion editorials & middle aged women drinking wine on yachts for some reason. Not this jacket though. It looks so stylish on you. I wouldn’t have though it was linen either if I hadn’t of read the post haha Love the whole look.

  9. i don't think that I own any linen pieces, but this just makes me want to go find as many as possible, especially in the place where I live in because the weather is insane here. I'm LOVING the lace bra underneath, Gabrielle; it gives off such an interesting edge to the entire look.

  10. Linen is a strange sartorial creature. I definitely associate it with warmer months but for me (at least in Oz) I find it too restricting and overly warm to actually wear out in the summer months!

  45. I love this linen jacket, Gabrielle! I agree, linen does tend to be more suitable for the warmer temps, since it's so light and refreshing to wear! I think it's certainly appropriate to begin wearing it now at the start of spring, especially in a jacket form like the one you're wearing! I love the story you told of your mom picking you up wearing a linen dress, I got the image in my mind, so cute! You look beautiful as always, girlie, thank so much for sharing!
