Greenway Estate | Agatha Christie's Holiday Home

Greenway Estate Agatha Christie's holiday home blog review
For as long as I can remember, I've been a huge (read: intense) fan of Agatha Christie's work.  In particular, her creations of Miss Marple and Poirot.  In fact, alongside the books I've also developed an obsession with the ITV adaptations of these two series over the past decade.  I have my favourite books/episodes, my favourite characters and of course, my favourite lines.  To be honest, I compare each and every murder mystery story with her work.  The question I ask myself most often?  But is it as good as Agatha Christie's work?  So, now you understand how utterly mesmerised I am with the British writer's work, you can imagine my sheer joy upon visiting her holiday home near Galmpton in Devon, England...

Greenway Estate Agatha Christie Holiday Home Blog Review
Things for Agatha Christie Fans To Do In England
Above all else, regardless of whether or not you're a fan of Agatha Christie's work (1890-1976), her holiday home makes for one spectacular visit thanks to the breathtakingly beautiful views.  The entrance sees you walk up her private driveway overlooking a dreamy harbour, until you reach the grand white house.  Alternatively, you can access Greenway Estate via boat from Dartmouth - if you fancy pushing the boat out (ha!).  Within, endless insights into her creative process are revealed, as well as clips of Agatha speaking and a very special feeling of walking in her very footsteps.  Admittedly, I'm not much of a fangirl... but when it comes to Agatha Christie, I'm prepared to make the exception.  Ugh, she'll forever be my answer to the 'dream dinner guest' question.

If you happen to find yourself in Devon this Springtime, I couldn't recommend Greenway Estate more.  It's a beautiful, tranquil and secluded gem surrounded by nature!  Speaking of which, during the Spring season you can expect to find Camellias, rhododendron, spring bulbs and more bloom all over the woodland garden.

Psst!  Spring guided flower walks take place at 2pm each day!  Oh, and it's such a special place you'll need to book ahead for parking via their website - as parking is limited.

I've noticed my blog is becoming increasingly quintessentially British and you know what?  I'm pretty happy about that!  There's nothing I love more than strolling through beautiful gardens towards a historic house, sunshine beating down on my shoulders and the promise of a scone and/or slice of cake just metres away.  I hope you've enjoyed this post, I can't wait to hear your thoughts in the comments below!  Had you heard of Greenway Estate before?  What do you think of the place?

  7. A very British blog indeed, but I don't complain. Miss Marple is an icon, as is Agatha Christie, and visiting the place where she was creative sounds very inspiring.

  8. I didn't know you were a fan of Agatha Christie. I've loved her ever since I was a young girl. I remember how we all used to read her books back in the elementary school, especially during our summers. Good times. I was just thinking how I need to get back to Agatha's works and read those I haven't read alreday. Poirot is one of my favourite characters in general... he is still the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a detective. Books are always the best, but I also love to watch the adaptations of Agatha's work. Agatha's life is also a fascinating thing to study. I always wondered about the time she went missing (after she found out about her husband's affair). Did Agatha do it on purpose, did she disappeared to make people wonder? Did she just need some time for herself? Or did she really have a nervous breakdown? I guess we will never know.

How exciting you got to visit her home. That must have been very inspiring. The house looks splendid. The garden is enchanting. I always love your photography!I'd love to visit the Greenway Estate some day. You look great in this outfit btw, those boots are so cute.

  15. I love Agatha Christie! What's your favourite story of hers? Mine is And Then There Were None, it's a masterpiece. I had never heard about the house however, and it makes me want to visit it! I can totally imagine how I'd explore the grounds, looking for inspiration for mysterious stories like she did. Your outfit is great by the way, I love your jacket!

    1. Lovely to hear from you Julia! Oh, that's a fabulous choice :) I've literally just finished watched a BBC modern adaptation (three-part series) of that story! My all time favourite would have to be Death on the Nile, although I change my mind on a monthly basis haha!

  16. Oh yes, she's one of my fave British writers, I think the first one that I read was The murder of Roger Ackroyd. That's so exciting that you've seen her holiday home, I would be ecstatic too. I like the Japanese art, the marble table and the lush garden. I like what you're wearing too, the whole look fits the location.

  30. I love reading and in fact this year I think I already finished more than 8 books (which pretty good for me ) but I've never read her stories. I am intrigued to read one of her mystery crime stories especially since her summer house looks so amazing. She certainly had exquisite taste. Thanks for sharing with us :)
