People start running for various reasons. A common myth is that its sole purpose is to aid weight loss (though it's pretty damn good for that too), however it attracted me for a very different reason. I've always been a sporty person and yet only warmed to the idea of running when I realised how helpful it could be for calming the mind. Sure, I find candles relaxing, soft music calming and picturesque views to be beautifully tranquil - however if I really want to unwind and destress, I run. So with this in mind, I've put together a list of 5 reasons to start running, comprising slightly more unusual points that have occurred to me over the past few years...
*
1 - You don't have to wait for a court to free up, your friend to arrive or a particular gym area to empty out, if you choose to make the activity a solo one, you can just... do it. You're good to go! Any place, any time.
*
*
*
4 - As I mentioned earlier, for peace of mind. If you're struggling to find ways to relax and slow down your thoughts, try swinging the other way and get out of the bubble bath. I mean, don't turn your back on bubble baths altogether, just schedule them for after runs. Sounds good? Sounds good.

Regardless of whether you did a winning sprint out of the womb, or have been known to tremble at the thought of a brisk walk, running is for everyone - health permitting. So, if you love it, great! And if you hate it, you're welcome to come back here and beat me to a pulp with your well-circulated hands. Deal?
With love,
Gabrielle x

Your running outfit is amazing, you look so beautiful! I totally agree with your reasons for running, I especially love the convenience of it by being able to do it anywhere and anytime. I also love that it's amazing for your state of mind!

I have tried running unfortunately it's not for me. I find it to b very distracting, boring and all I concentrate on is refraining myself from taking a taxi back home. Yoga is the only thing that really works for me so far.

I like your workout outfit! I tried to like running but I feel like I'm terrible at it, maybe someday I'll try again :)

Convincing enough for me to start. Though not sure if my ortho will approve.
ReplyDeleteLove that outfit.
I loved this post so much! Your right about freeing your mind. When I workout and walk and run I feel very clam like the stress of the world has just lifted. I love how you don't need a gym either, the outside elements can be your natural gym. Those trainers are gorgeous! It reminds me, I need a new pair because mine are dirty as ever. Loved this inspiration so much x :) http://www.bauchlefashion.com/
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a runner but you're right the workout gear these days is so much better than it used to be. Not having a cute workout look is not an excuse.

I have a weird relationship with running. I never used to run, it never appealed to me until a few years ago when one day I just felt a need to take it up. Since then I go through moments where I make it a priority then don't. I don't know why I go for them, and I'm going through another moment where I want to take it up again lol. I put more priority on going for long walks because I find that clears my mind and destresses me, something which I noticed running does not do for me!

I really needed that little pep talk! I just got back from vacationing in Asia, and while I'm usually losing weight when traveling in Asia this time was different and I actually gained some:/ Time to get the running shoes on:)
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me want to be a runner, and I love the thought of running as well but my god it's just not for me. I completely take my hat off to those who genuinely enjoy running but for me I much prefer things like kickboxing, dancing or hiking to get in my exercise. I guess it really all just comes down to personal preference though. I will admit that I think if I had a really nice route to run or some kind of a scenic place nearby then that would make it much more appealing to me!

Hi Gabrielle,
ReplyDeleteI like your running shoes. They look like the shoes we just bought my fiancee for when she goes running with me. I've just started running in mid December 2015 and I have to say that I agree with your list. The part that resonated with me the most was what you mentioned about goal setting.
For me, running has been a test of my physical endurance and my mental strength. Every day I find myself setting new goals in terms of distance or time and I really push myself to meet them. Beyond that I have lost a little bit of my "lazy weight" that I put on during years of inactivity. I look better, I feel better, and I think that I am more confident in a lot of other areas of my life.
I think its important to note, though, that someone totally unaccustomed to running doesn't have to start out with any crazy goals. They could walk until they build up the want to jog or run. Setting small goals will work- its getting out there that is important!

This post is so inspirational! I unfortunately can't handle running; I'm one of those people that cracks every join just by sitting down or standing up and running gets uncomfortable fast on my ankle and knees. I do however try to do a quick 15 minute jog on the treadmill for my heart rate which I can handle, something about the treadmill is easier on my joints than the ground. Thanks for writing this post!

Lovely motivational post! I love exercising, but I couldn't run to save my life. I know it's good for the body and mind, like you said, but I get dizzy. I usually walk really fast with weights on an incline to get my heart rate up.

You look fantastic, Gabrielle! I love your workout outfit and those trainers, too! I do more weight training than anything else because I've noticed the whenever I do a lot of cardio, I lose a lot of weight, an unhealthy looking amount. However, within the past couple of months, I've been doing 15 minutes of some form of cardio 3x a week and haven't seen too much weight loss. I love running and stopped because of the weight, but I think I'll start up again, just for a shorter amount of time. You've definitely inspired me with this post. You're right, it's great for the mind and easing stress. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you're having a wonderful day and week so far :)

Great post and inspiration Gabrielle. I used to run a lot but injured my foot in a snowboarding accident, now I walk a lot mostly, speed walk to get the same results. Stylish gear definitely motivates me, and I love these pieces you are wearing. Yes, the Nike Roshe trainers get dirty quickly, I always have to scrub mine after an outdoor workout. <3 Happy weekend! xo /Madison
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic reasons, Gabrielle! I've been running inconsistently for the past two months and am hoping to make it part of my daily routine. I definitely agree that running aids in the calming of the mind tremendously.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I had a good little laugh at your introductory paragraph. Oh, what bloggers do for presentable photographs.

Excellent post, you are a good inspiration Gaby...well done. BTW, I love your sports outfit....Me too, I've always been a sporty person my two passions: hiking and swimming. Completely addicted, very energetic , invigorating and destress :-))
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about all the 5 reasons, because I am a regular runner myself too. And it's such a good mental workout as well, as recently I am trying to break through my 35 minutes limit to 40 and I feel hella good after reaching 40. It's like accomplishing things that I thought I'd never reach. x

I must admit that I'm not a fan of running. However, often in my life when I lacked the Energy and time for other types of physical activity, I would turn to running and I must say it did really help me feel better. It is like the character in The Human Stain says- I hated running but I never missed a day. Running is great for Health because everyone can adjust it in the way the want and find a pace that suit their needs.
ReplyDeleteyou look stunning in this sporty outfit!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and tips! I wish I had a good place near for a run, but I don´t.. :(

I used to do quite a lot of running but now I stick to sprinting as I think my body got used to it and I needed something quite radical ;-) Great shots especially that second one, it's really striking
ReplyDeleteI'm not really the running type of gal since I prefer the slow/low impact type of exercise like yoga or power walking but when I do decide to give running a try I won't beat you to a pulp even if I know i will probably hate it...promise! hahaha

I agree with your running list! It's probably one of the easiest exercises you can do because all you have to do is step out your front door (unless you live in the country...then you need to probably get into your car and at least drive somewhere safe). Also I must say you have the prettiest ponytail ever - I always want to grow my hair out that long but cut it before it gets too far past my shoulders because its starts to weigh on my scalp.

A great post and lovely photographs too! You can certainly tell you work out as you look so toned and healthy, and your skin is beautiful. Lovely workout outfit too!
ReplyDeleteI don't run personally, I do HIIT training which is a shorter form of intense training. I combine it with weights and toning exercises and it helps incredibly with overall fitness and health. They can also be done at anytime too from your own home (or outdoors if you want).
