1 - Try not to overthink. Easier said than done, I know!
2 - Book travel. Arrange some adventures for later in the year to start looking forward to
3 - Workout. Or if you don't enjoy working out, walk. Walk, walk, walk...
4 - Enjoy your food. A bar of chocolate after a stressful day doesn't mean you've 100% turned your back on your New Year resolution. Relax.
5 - Interact. Arrange to see friends to avoid a Cold Turkey effect after having enjoyed a super-social festive season. Try to balance out every hour of socialising with two hours of 'me time'
6 - Pamper yourself. You know the drill: baths, candles, loungewear etc.
7 - Mini projects. Throw yourself into mini indoor projects that keep you busy without freezing you to the core eg. DIY, artwork, decluttering etc.
8 - Films. Especially comedies!
9 - Treat yourself. It could be as little as a bouquet of flowers for your coffee table, or new book to read on the train
10 - Look out for others. If you can't take your mind off yourself, your next move could be to turn your attention to others. How can you help them?

The chances are your month is already including some of the suggestions above, but if something is on your mind and/or you feel your mood slipping a little, I hope some of my other tips can be of help. And hey, if all else fails, just focus on the warmer, sunnier days ahead!
With love,
Gabrielle x
I over think everything, it is so hard not to sometimes! But I must admit I do love a comedy to cheer me up, with a bar of chocolate of course! :) loved your photography on this post, so so beautiful :)

Hi Gabrielle,
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of walking. Honestly, I am not a working out person, but do always feel calm after a walk in the nearby parks. I also could do with decluttering my wardrobe!
Thanks for your warming advice.

I hated hearing about Blue Monday, especially as it fell on my Birthday! I definitely tried to ignore it and your ten ways are ones I feel really passionate about, especially enjoying your food and treating yourself - those are definitely my favourite! ;)

Not gonna lie, I definitely get the case of January Blues (Is that a thing? haha) and this was really helpful. Glad to know I'm not the only one with a bit of a case of the Mondays (January is basically the Monday of the calendar year, right?!) and post holiday sluggishness, so I can use all the inspo I can get!!

These are all such great encouraging ideas, girl! I love the ones on pampering and taking it easy on oneself. After a super hectic holiday season, this can make such a difference to one's mood. You've encouraged me to stop by Lush this weekend and pick up some bath bombs :) As for that lantern, how cute is it!? I love the idea and I'm sure it does enhance the coziness in any room! I love your list...Thinking about others and helping them is actually incredibly effective in making ourselves feel better. Doing something for others does more than create social skills or allows us to spend time with others and build friendships...it can actually do wonders for our confidence. We all feel stuck in a rot sometimes and helping others is a great way to think outside the box. It is so important to learn how to be happy for others. People talk a lot about how the modern world makes us more lonely and in some aspects modern life does that, but in reality it is all up to us. If we do not invest time in building our friendships and relationships, then they will not reach their full potential...as simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI love making lists too, it is indeed therapeutic but also they help to get stuff done :D I'll be booking a trip with a friend in a couple weeks (hopefully), doing that in January definitely makes you feel better because you have something fun to look forward to. To this list I'd add treating yourself to one or two items from the sales, I know Christmas was just a few weeks ago but right now is the best time to find a pretty jumper with a good deal!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that lantern is gorgeous, lucky you! :)

I am definitely loving these tips! Especially the travel one haha. I have to admit I LOVE have trips to look forward to. I also totally agree about the food thing. Stress is almost as bad for you as eating the wrong thing! I give in to cravings so that way I don't go crazy the next day. It's good for you. ;)

I'm a massive fan of number 2 - I end up booking most of my flights for the year in January as I love having trips to look forward to! I must say though that I'm enjoying my food a little too much at the minute and as it's been hovering between -5 and -10C in Geneva in the last week or two I've done no exercise whatsoever as it's just been too cold. That being said i'm not going stress about it because life is too short :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I've got to read this before ending the first month of the year. This sounds interesting and effective.
