I mentioned at the beginning of this year my plan to cover more places on 'home turf' and so far I've kept to my word! However it's through doing this, I've noticed a familiar question popping up both in the comment section, as well as my inbox - can these places be reached from London? So, considering most visitors to the UK at some point find themselves in London, I've put together a brief list of culture and/or fun-packed places easily reached from the capital. Each one has been tried and tested, enjoyed and reviewed!
Bath - 1h 30m
Set in the rolling countryside, Bath is packed with history and ideal for exploring in between (inevitable) tearoom stops. Take a look at my 48 Hours in Bath travel diary for a better idea of how to make the most of your time in the historic town - as well as where to stay! Oh and if you have access to a car on your trip, Iford Manor and the Peto Garden is just a 25 minute drive away

Hever Castle - 1h 30m
One of the most spectacular castles in the UK (boasting my all-time favourite gardens!). Definitely one to consider if you're looking to make a full day out with family in a safe and contained environment

Windsor -1h
Because how can you visit England without checking out the Queen's official place of residence?! The castle sits directly opposite various shops and café's, and there's also the option of making your way down The Long Walk towards the Deer Park. Take a peek at how Royal Windsor looks in Winter, and then decide whether to travel out to Virginia Water Lake - just a 30m train journey away

Waddesdon Manor - 1h 25m
The country manor has a Rothschild history and enough grand features to keep you busy for an entire day - no doubt! Besides the manor itself, you can head to the renovated stables for sweet treats (including crêpes), the Aviary for a look at colourful and exotic birds, or simply stroll through the extensive grounds. Oh and Bicester Village is just a 20m car journey away (1h 30m by train)!

Stratford-upon-Avon - 2h 20m
Considering the travel time, it may be worth staying overnight after seeing a play in the evening at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Ditch the high heels and switch on full tourist mode - this one is ideal for a low-key, casual and relaxed experience

Blenheim Palace - 1h 40m
A monumental country home located in Woodstock. For the history enthusiasts, there's the attraction of the palace having been built 300 years ago, as well as it being the birthplace of Winston Churchill. There's a lovely café looking out over a fountain, as well as sprawling grounds to explore. Check out my Picture-Perfect Day at Blenheim Palace

Brighton - 1h 5m
A firm day-trip favourite of most visitors to the UK - and with good reason! Some activities to experience include the British Airways i360, spectacular Royal Pavillion and of course strolling by the beach and along the pier. Need inspiration? Take a look at how I spent my time in Brighton when visiting last Winter
*
Leeds Castle - 1h 50m
Last but not least, Leeds Castle makes for a lovely visit at any time of year. The castle is truly fascinating, though other on-site attractions include gardens, maze, falconry and some delicious food options. But to avoid any (understandable) confusion - it's actually in Kent and not Leeds!

There's plenty to do in the capital, but putting aside one day for a change of scenery could make for a refreshing break. I'd love to hear whether you've visited any of the above before? Let me know in the comments below!

Wow I'm really slacking with a lot of these haha. I've been to Hever Castle a few times and it's lovely, along with Windsor, Blenheim Palace and Brighton and a few others. But can you believe I've never been to Leeds Castle, or even Leeds for that matter? I think I really should though lol, it seems lovely.

Stunning suggestions as always gorgeous Gabrielle, you're always so wondrous in giving me an injection of wanderlust ;) I love that you mentioned Leeds castle, my boyfriend and I went there for one of our very first dates and we always go back every year to celebrate our anniversary. It really is such a majestic place and it's such a fun filled day out. Their Christmas fair is always so lovely, too :) Hever Castle is another gem for sure, you've definitely reminded me to take a trip back there sometime, I whole heartedly agree that the gardens are absolutely beautiful! Those pink roses and fairytale doors! *sigh* <3
