Okay, I can appreciate there are more pressing issues to think about in life. But we're gliding past that for just a second. Focussing on aesthetic, literally speaking it's the 'appreciation of beauty'. Individually speaking, it's so much more. Speaking from experience, discovering your individual aesthetic can lead to having a better understanding of where you most enjoy spending your time - and that is why it's so important. Knowing where you feel the most comfortable and at your happiest, means picking hotels that feel like home, dressing in outfits that resemble second skins and visiting places that make you feel good. What could be better than that?

This is a really interesting post and I've never really stop to think what my own aesthetic is! I think that's probably because to be perfectly honest, it's still something I'm discovering! It's certainly a fun journey to go on though. :-)

Mine is definitely in bright colourful spaces. Yellow obsessed! lol It's so important to know what you love though, especially to feel most comfortable :)

I agree that it's important to find your aesthetic...we realized how much we love our home because it's build from scratch and we have it done just the way we want it to be.

“To cut a long story short, I’m now obsessed with them” - you had me cracking up over this! I love greenhouses too but we really have none here in Perth :( I always make time to sightsee some when overseas though! I can totally understand why you love them. They’re like a piece of paradise brought inside to shelter. I love the combination of real life plants in this interior with the addition of botanical wallpaper. I don’t think you could ever go overboard with leaves or nature! I agree that it’s important to find your own aesthetic. I kind of think people that have worked out this in their own lives have strong ideas of what they want in more pressing matters. See what I did there? :P Lovely read once again! x

Even though it might seemingly be a superficial thing, aesthetics do matter because they play such a major role in the things which surround us. I feel fortunate that my husband and I happen to share the same aesthetic sense when it comes to both fashion and home decor.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like an indoor garden. Im loving the nature wallpaper themed and how the place looks so nature friendly.

I have discovered my individual aesthetic over time and only now realize, how important it is for my wellbeing. I do live in a shared space now, so it does not fit my personal aesthetic completely, and that bothers me.
ReplyDeleteLinda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking
That looks like a beautiful place to stay! :) While I haven't thought much about interior decorating or anything like that, I am trying to define my personal style and find out the outfits and styles I'm happiest in, I agree with what you said about how great you feel and how you feel like you can accomplish a lot when you're feeling comfortable and confident, even with just what you're wearing!
ReplyDeleteHope you have had a lovely weekend :)

I definitely try to stick to a certain aesthetic - basically a riot of colour! Love your photos of this hotel, it looks so Instagrammable!
ReplyDeleteThis is so right! I mean, yeah it's all about finding what you enjoy; what makes you happy, what you think is beautiful, etc, but you also kind of find out a lot about yourself within your aesthetic. It's a good thing to be aware of. My own involves a lot of nature, whimsy, and ornate details. This is a great post Gabrielle, and these photos are lovely! I n ed those pink chairs.

I totally agree that it’s important to figure out your own aesthetic. While of course there are more important things in life, like you mentioned, it’s still a really big part of figuring out who we are and our tastes and preferences in terms of how we like to present ourselves to the world. And I also think when we have a cohesive environment in terms of our homes or workspaces it allows us to be way more productive, whether that’s to do with working or relaxing, we can do anything we want to do better when we’re comfortable and feel at home in the space instead of being distracted by it or are made to feel uncomfortable in it.

finding your aesthetic does make you feel good. i love minimal, sleek & conservative designs. in incorporated that into my home when i remodeled.

I think exactly the same Gabrielle!
ReplyDeleteI think that to discever your own sense of aesthetic is something very important in the process of knowing yourself and growing up as person in general!
Maybe could seem something superficial and not so essential in life, but, for me, you cannot became a complete person if you don't have a developed your own aesthetic sense.
Mine is similar yours, since I like too glasshouses and clear and light places with someì luxurioius vibes, but in somewhat in a more "rococò way"!
In substance mix it with the Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette aesthetic and it's more or less my kind of!^^
Amazing photos, dear!

I think it's super important to understand what makes you comfortable and happy! It's so much easier for me to chill out and focus at home now that I actually get what I can vibe with around me. I'm also a huge fan of the clean, minimalist look. But a few homey touches (some plants and a picture gallery) are also a must!

I also had no idea what my aesthetic was either but as years flew by I found more and more things I loved. Glass house are fresh, clean and feels super light and airy. I need to think about where I like to spend most of my time, I love being outside but I get cold fast so maybe glasshouses are a great fit for me also.
ReplyDeleteOh what a gorgeous post Gabrielle! I think I am definitely heading in a similar direction to you. I spend a lot of time on websites like Pinterest and websites that look at and talk about interior design, and I love that style of combining botanicals with more historical and minimalist styles, it always look so clean and comforting. This hotel looks absolutely gorgeous! I've realised that I'm drawn to boutique hotels with modern luxuries, rustic influences and quirky accessories so understandable this hotel appeals! I don't like tower blocks or too corporate hotels and avoid any that look too cheap! Your photos are stunning as always and I look forward to reading your Cambridge blog.

I think we have similar aesthetics. Minimalistic with a touch of freshness. What a beautiful hotel and I can see myself applying that look in our home.
