The meaning of wellness? An 'active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life'. You'll have no doubt heard it mentioned at some point over recent months, or years - though perhaps not in so many words. Self-care falls under the umbrella of wellness, as does health and even fitness. I feel as though the past few years have seen a huge shift towards encouraging people to look after themselves; it started with the concept of Hygge, moved to include Lagom and now has us all discussing self-care in every shape and form. No complaints here. We're a generation made up of those creating, working, analysing and pushing forwards - but with that comes a certain responsibility to truly take care of ourselves. The question is, how does keeping active slot into this movement of wellness?
Considering the role good health plays in the concept of wellness, keeping active is particularly important. Although, it's all about moderation. Put it this way, last summer I pushed myself way too hard at the gym and ended up knackering my body in the process. Lesson learnt! The trick is to listen to your body and keep your health in mind. By all means push yourself, but know your limits. Having fallen down the rabbit hole of all things wellness-related, I can see now how exercise isn't about punishing yourself to see how much you can take. Instead, it's a form of improving and almost treating your body, getting fitter, sweating out the toxins, getting stronger with every day.

Top - Body Glove Hooded Top c/o Cocobay

Needless to say, there are a ton of different forms of wellness. Though right now my mind is entirely fixed on the form that speaks to our bodies. With this in mind, Cocobay's New In activewear is ticking all of the right boxes. Like I said, keeping active is a treat for our bodies - but nobody said it couldn't also be a treat for the eyes! I'm a true Seafolly legging convert (especially since 5 Ways To Look Stylish While Working Out and Reset Your Fitness Goals), and so the addition of these Seafolly Colour Block Leggings to my gym wardrobe has helped kickstart this new year's fitness endeavours in the best possible way - in style! Also, can we take a minute to appreciate a decent hooded top? I swear you can never have too many in an activewear wardrobe. This isn't my first Body Glove hooded top and... yeah, I still understand the hype.
Do you think much about wellness/self-care? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below, along with whether you rate or hate this activewear look?!

Very important to listen to your body. Especially in pushing your body too hard. I myself like to eat super healthy and deny myself any junk foods but then end up binging on crap in the evenings.. Oops. I'm working on that this year though haha Love the activewear. Nothing to make you more motivated to workout then some new fitness gear!

I love your activewear, so cute! Working out is important and definitely something I'm trying to push myself to do more. I agree that we can push ourselves too far sometimes and listening to our bodies is important. Great post!

I rate this look, hooded tops are the best for throwing on after a sweaty workout. And I couldn´t agree more, excercise shouldn´t be a punishment, it should be a treat for our bodies!

I love your leggings! I will definitely check this site. Maybe I'll be more motivated to workout if I'll be wearing cute workout outfits. Haha! :))

I've been slowly getting 'fitness-conscious' last year. I do not have gym membership, but I try to do cardios and I try to at least walk 10k a day. I want to get stronger so hiking won't be too much for me. I really love your activewear especially that leggings!

I love this outfit Gabrielle! Yes, it is important to listen to your body. If you don't, you can do more harm than good while exercising (injure yourself). You can push too much. So it's important to stop, rest, take breaks etc.

It is extremely important to listen to our body! I injured myself a lot back in 2016 and early 2017 because of my stubbornness and it took me forever to heal.
ReplyDeleteShireen⎜Reflection of Sanity
Oh man, you definitely don't have to push yourself so hard in the gym, Gabrielle! You always look amazing. Love those leggings too!

Hi Gabby! Thank you for defining all the key phrases here! Your explanation of excercise - that is to treat and not punish your body has shifted my perception. I love the ensemble - I'm a big fan of leggings!

LOVE this look! Let's be honest, working out is so much better when you have cute clothes on (that's basically a proven fact). We're pretty hardcore about health and wellness because it honestly affects your ENTIRE life! Nothing goes untouched when you're feeling 100%. But like you said, it's about balance and knowing when to push harder and pull back!
ReplyDeleteLove this!

It is so important to listen to your body! Pushing it to the limits can be quite dangerous. Wellness is about finding the balance to make you feel healthy and happy! I love this look, especially the leggings!

Great quotes :) You look stunning ❤
ReplyDeleteSo important to get active and move your body! Especially these days when so many of us have jobs that require us to sit for long periods of time or go to school and sit the whole day. Being active can mean so many things too! Definitely doesn't always have to mean going to the gym and running on a treadmill, it can be whatever you enjoy to do.

This is definitely an area I want to improve upon this year. I've been very slack and been making other things a priority over wellness and fitness and I've definitely felt the repercussions my neglect. Especially getting older. You can't get away with as much as what I could ten years ago hahaha!

While I might sometimes need a bit of convincing to go, I always feel so much better in myself once I've done a bit of exercise. Loving the Cocobay activewear - I don't think I'd want to take it off though, it looks so cosy!

I'm a big believer in exercise. As you stressed, moderate exercise is the key. It is all about finding an ideal fitness routine. This is something that can change as our needs change, sometimes we might need to change our work out routine weekly. As much as I believe in the importance of exercise, it is important not to overdo it but instead make it a component of our daily lives, something that can hopefully help us get rid of some stress. I think we all get too carried away sometimes, become too ambitious....working out can feel so good and empowering that we forget that we should really listen to experts and what they say. Most experts do stress that our bodies need a break and that we shouldn't work out too much.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes exercise even when I have health problems, but I listen to my body and I don't think I overdo it, I hope I've found a good balance with years. Last year I exercised for a week or two with 39 fever and while that might seem crazy I'm happy I did it because after the operation, I wasn't allowed to exercise for the whole 2 months- so I'm happy that I did it. I didn't worked out for straight two months after though- I followed the advice of my doctors. I'm back to working out now, I don't have a strict fitness routine but I work out whenever I can. Getting in shape after being bed ridden for 3 months is no walk in the park, but luckily I actually like to work out.
you look great in this sporty outfit btw!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute casual exercise outfit! :) While I don't exercise as much as I'd like as it's so hard to find time with the two little ones, I do think self care is so important, and eating well, so I can achieve those parts of the wellness theme! :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a great weekend! We started our weekend early with the Australia Day public holiday which was nice :)

Those leggings are fab Gabrielle! Wellness has been a huge priority for me ever since recovering from a few health issues a few years ago. If you don't take of your body and mind, they won't take care of you.
ReplyDeleteI wish I look half as stylish as you are when working out!
ReplyDeletethis is definitely a rate
and I definitely think about wellness being a lot. I try my best to exercise three times a week with healthy food on weekdays and just let loose on the weekend with zero workout. it's all about balance, I guess

The Sweetest Escape
It is easy to push ourselves too hard when exercising. I experienced that myself a while ago. I've learnt my lesson and listen to my body now.
ReplyDeleteHer Style Hive
Because I practice yoga almost every day and meditate daily I definitely think about self care and wellness but this is only for past few years that I've really focused on taking a moment to check in with myself. Also I consider self care a night in with netflix and a glass of wine =o)

I had no idea Seafolly did activewear, it's normally their bras & swimsuits I'm lusting over! I think wellness is definitely about finding balance, looking after and listening to your body. I've been finding the gym a bit of a slog but I know I need to persevere and in terms of blogging I know I need to listen to my body and chill out sometimes!
