Phew! Would you take a look at that afternoon tea?! I'm proud to say this was demolished in under fifteen minutes - but photographed for probably twice as long beforehand! Last month I found myself in Torquay for a few days, staying at The Imperial Torquay. While there, I seized the opportunity to indulge in an afternoon tea downstairs overlooking the harbour. Blazing hot sunshine streaming through the windows, large helpings of condiments and glorious interior design to set the mood. It was undoubtedly one of my all-time favourite afternoon teas... which got me thinking; what other fabulous, traditional afternoon teas can be found right now across the country? Notepads at the ready, it's time to hunt down the tastiest scones in the UK! The rules are loose, but sumptuous interior deign is a must...

Psst! This is in no particular order. Any of the locations listed below are pretty much guaranteed to provide you with a fabulous experience. So, take your pick and start exploring!
Ugh, my mouth is watering just looking at this afternoon tea again - oh, sweet memories...
As always, I'm really looking forward to reading your thoughts in the comments below. Have you ever enjoyed afternoon tea at any of the places mentioned in this post? Where was the last afternoon tea you enjoyed?

You're looking at it here in this post! The views of the harbour from the hotel are breathtakingly beautiful and even more so on a sunny day. I'll be sharing a full travel guide to the area (featuring this hotel) soon - so keep an eye out!

I could quite happily live in any room of The Langham for the rest of my life, and the dining rooms are no exception. It's decor heaven and that includes the food - afternoon tea is beautifully presented

If it's traditional you're after, look no further! Surrounded by nature, it's a cosy location ideal for enjoying afternoon tea outdoors on a warm summer's afternoon

Afternoon tea at The Ritz had been on my wishlist for a while, before being ticked off the list by Pandora Jewellery last month in a private dining room. Dreamy! If it's luxury you're after...

Book an overnight stay to enjoy the 5 star luxury of the hotel rooms and then the cream on top of the scone? Book a tasty afternoon tea! Encourage the men in your group to compete in a round of golf, and then scoff aaaall of the scones yourself!

After walking for miles and then taking a boat to Windermere, sitting down in a traditionally luxurious living room two years ago to enjoy afternoon tea in the Lake District was complete perfection. The food is absolutely divine - a must when in the area

With a view of Buckingham Palace, The Rubens makes perfect sense for tourists exploring this part of London. Oh and don't even get me started on that plush burgundy interior...

Arguably one of the most popular pink locations in the country, Sketch is the perfect location for a feminine afternoon tea in London. Hello Instagrammable venue!

I'm yet to get around to exploring much of Ireland, but believe me that when I do, The Westbury in Dublin will be at the very top of my to-do list. The interior design, the food, the location - I'm yet to read a bad review!

Going out to afternoon tea is one of my favorite things to do! Whenever it's my birthday or there's something worth celebrating, my family and I always hunt down the best places to have the proper English Tea ritual here in NY. I cannot wait until I go to London so I can try some of these places. All of them look fantastic :)

I only went for afternoon tea once in my life, it isn't really a thing here in Germany. It was delicious though, and my godmother (she's from London) said it was good enough to qualify.

I haven't been to a classic afternoon tea, just a small one as part of an attraction, but these suggestions sound amazing x

I was just looking at Afternoon teas in San Francisco, now this post has me overly excited. Thank you for all the awesome information, I’m going to save it :)
ReplyDeleteThose cakes look delicious! I had quite a few sweets at the wedding I attended yesterday, so I better enjoy cakes in virtual shape for a while. I always enjoy your photography! You look really cute btw, love those oversize sunglasses. The bag is adorable as well.
ReplyDeleteI need to bookmark this post, just in case I visit UK this Spring. It was great reading this. I imagine that both tourists and locals would like to know about where to find a perfect cup of tea in a traditional British location. I'm both a tea and coffee lover, and I always wanted to try a British tea.
I feel like such a fraud as a British person in that I have never been anywhere for an afternoon tea, I fully intend on taking my daughter when she is old enough to handle the long long trip to london to visit one of the gorgeous pink locations :)

I absoloutely adore afternoon tea! There's something so lovely about seeing them bring out the cake stand full of goodies isn't there? I'm really intrigued by the quirky afternoon teas that seem to be popular lately too - they look wonderful!

Amazing photos! Now I'm hungry :D For me there's always time for afternoon tea, in general I love tea and I can drink tea all the time.
ReplyDeleteAfternoon tea is such a classic British thing to do - and yet ever since I've been here I've never had a proper one! This needs to change haha, and I'm hoping to go later on in the year when I'm on holiday. Sketch is of course a place I'd love to see, it just looks so good that I might even just go for the aesthetics of the place haha. Afternoon tea at a classic hotel like the Ritz must feel so special too!

ReplyDeleteOh I just adore the ritual of afternoon tea! I have done it a few times in New York but I can imagine the experience being even more amazing and authentic in the UK. I just always wish there were more savory options since I'm sugar-free.
ReplyDeleteI never tried an afternoon tea and have been trying to convince my husband to attend one with me. He thinks it's too 'British'. LOL!
