A buzz of excitement tends to circulate around this time of year, thanks to the introduction of new trends and the possibility of new styling options now that we can swap over to our cold-weather wardrobes. Ooh, yes please! Above all else, something that's caught my eye for Autumn is Heritage Style; a tried and tested trend that tends to come back each time more powerful. Classic prints and materials built to stand the test of time, and look chic while doing so. Corduroy, checks, tweeds and heritage fabrics. The colour palette tends to be neutral and this year, seemingly with a focus on warmer tones. And you know what? That suits me just fine, because lately I've developed a newfound appreciation for warm tones; such as caramel, brown, camel and gold. So, what better time of year to explore a new colour palette than Autumn, and when a trend so eagerly welcomes the shades?! Time to get familiar with the Heritage trend...

So, you're wanting to push your wardrobe towards the new season trend, complete with heritage prints, warm tones and a certain vibe that says 'you got this'. Well, the best place to start is by adding a pair of checked trousers to your wardrobe; tight-fitting, classic and in a neutral shade that complements other pieces you wear regularly. Next stop, knitwear. The extra fine merino wool t-shirt I'm wearing is from the Holly Fulton x John Smedley contemporary range; the brand's second collaboration with the British designer. The zip-up design feature immediately caught my eye, particularly as I'm always on the lookout for flattering necklines. Oh and would you look at that - it features a warm tone! The camel shade ticks all of the right boxes for the trend, and the extra-fine merino wool is totally in fitting with the trend's rule of opting for superior fabrics.
Personally, this season my interpretation of the heritage trend will involve a focus on a few keywords: chic, classic and equestrian. I'll be keeping an eye out for suede arm pads, ruffles and buttery leather. Oh and if an item looks as though it belongs in a Ralph Lauren editorial? You can bet I'll be picking it up! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the heritage trend - will you be wearing it this season? Let me know in the comments below!

So, it's nearly time to throw ourselves headfirst into all things John Smedley, in the form of an edit of their best, luxurious pieces that work with this season's Heritage trend. But before that, I've brainstormed a few other ways to wear the trend this Autumn, using pieces that are most likely to be already lurking in your wardrobe. First of all, keeping the colour palette in mind, whip out your oversized coats and jackets. A key feature of the trend is layering and nothing screams 'heritage' so loudly as a knit waistcoat or v-neck jumper layered over a crisp white shirt, covered by a check coat. Another suggestion would be to take a peek at your footwear. Do you own any knee-high riding boots? Tan brogues?

As I mentioned earlier, layering is a huge element of the heritage trend - which is where John Smedley comes in! The range of colours and knits from the British brand are incredible. Alongside my fine-knit merino wool top, here are some other fabulous finds available on their website, ideal for layering underneath your fave wool check coat...

Amazing pictures, as always! Classics are the best because they work always and with almost everything. But I want those classic pieces to last for a long time so I need to find the perfect piece; I'm still on the lookout for a crisp, white shirt and the perfect pair of checked trousers. It's not easy :D

I think the tones and the pieces a part of this trend suit you so perfectly! You just carry off the look with such a timeless elegance, hard to describe but I wish I could pull it off like that! 100% if I tried to rock this outfit like you do I would end up looking like your ugly cousin hahaha
ReplyDeleteJulia // The Sunday Mode
Wow Gabrielle! You absolutely nailed that! This is so chic and styled, but it has a preppy edge to it at the same time, while remaining tailored and feminine. That's a fantastic styling and I love your striding poses, always so strong!

I love heritage style, I think it's so timeless! It really suits you as well!
ReplyDeleteKaty | www.therawrdrobe.com
While I don't think I'll be totally swapping out my wardrobe for a new look this A/W, the warmer shades really have been making an impression with me too, along with navy which is a neutral I don't have a huge amount of in my wardrobe, but I've picked up a couple of things recently to start to change that which I'm really pleased with. I just bought a beautiful cosy mustard coloured knit from Uniqlo and I think I could still do with a tan/beige coloured scarf and/or tight turtleneck as well as I think I'd get so much wear out of them in the coming months!
