Phew! Ever have one of those days that totally knocks you off your feet? They suck, for sure. But looking on the bright side, they do give us the opportunity to see just how far we've come with regard to resilience. How quickly do we pick ourselves up afterwards and bounce back? Yesterday was one of these 'burnout' days for me and it got me thinking about just how important it is to be resilient. The good news is that resilience is one of those fabulous personal skills that you can actually teach yourself; it's a learnt behaviour. It doesn't require you to be sharp and aggressive, it just asks you be emotionally tough. So, let's get stuck in!

Ever heard people talking about not being able to 'see the wood for the trees'? They're referring to being so involved in the teeny-tiny details of their problem, that they become unable to see the overall picture - where often the solution lies! This is something I'm still learning to put into practice, but I can already see this is a super important step towards becoming more resilient

Admittedly, this isn't something I taught myself; I was fortunate enough to always have this inherent feeling of the best being just around the corner. However, if you need a little nudge adopting this mantra, just remember that one bad moment doesn't equate to a bad life. It's just one day/week/month and one that can never repeat itself. Done and dusted. History.

Above all else, look after yourself. It's usually during these tough moments that we tend to neglect ourselves and all of the most basic needs: decent food, good sleep and basic exercise. Over the years I've found becoming more resilient one of the most exciting areas of personal development, because it creates obvious results in a relatively short space of time! Within just a few weeks you start to notice how things don't bother you quite as much as before. They don't play on your mind and hold you back. Bottom line? The best is yet to come, so don't let anything hold you back - especially not yourself.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on resilience. Is it something you've ever given much thought to? Would you describe yourself as a resilient person? Let me know in the comments below!

As soon as crisis strikes, the quickest way to get yourself on the right path is by switching from the have to mindset to the get to mindset. By this, I mean I GET to solve this problem. I GET to come out of this stronger. I GET to test my strength and resolve. Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it; believe me when I say it will surprise you just how powerful this shift of mindset can be!

What a fabulous jumpsuit! The print is everything. Plus, it looks simply perfect on you. I do like how you paired it with those stilettos and an elegant bag, it makes it look even more elegant.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with what you said. There are things we can teach to ourselves such as being stronger or more resilient. We can train our mind to think of problems as challenges...maybe not all the time, but it is amazing how much a change of perspective can help. Practicing creative thinking is another way to learn how to get around problems or be less affected by them.

Such an enchantingly magical post set in the most picturesque paradise ever my gorgeous Gabrielle! I'm head over heels for this topic, I think being resilient is a fabulous quality; one I definitely want to hold more power over. I'm a sensitive soul and often setbacks can derail my mood way too easily which I'm definitely trying to work on. This post came at the perfect time for me :) I love your top tips on how to be more resilient; the GET mindset is a real game-changer, one I'd never considered before. LOVING that gurl! Likewise gaining some perspective and adopting a more positive stance on the best being around the corner are such brilliant mantras to have and to hold too. Bless you for such a babin' post filled with heart and gorgeous soul as always dream lover goddess! You're looking oh so jazzy in this jumpsuit, the heels and bag are the stunning icing on the very flawless cake! ♥︎

Being resilient is the only to move upwards and onwards or at least that's my personal experience. As they said, what doesn't break you will only make you stronger.

Such a fun jumpsuit! I'm sorry you had a tough day but I'm glad you saw some positives to it! I had a terrible day, i did not feel very resilient at all, but I could easily put it behind me and enjoy the evening at home with the kids after work and that made the bad day not so bad to handle! :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a good week :)

Hi Gabrielle, the jumpsuit is beautiful! But having said that, thank you so so much for this motivational post. The past year or so has felt like one stretched out failed scenario, but I must remember that it does not equate to a bad life. I will take that away with me.

Couldn’t agree more that when you go through a really rough patch, you come out the other side caring less about the little things, and it’s much harder for them to get you down than before. Of course when there are too many little things at once it can get to you, but for the most part it’s easier to put things into perspective and know that missing your train isn’t worth having a complete meltdown over. You do pretty much have to learn to be resilient and know how to get through the hard times in life because no one is immune to them and the better you are able to cope with them, the sooner you will be able to get through to the other side.

You are so wise and always have really great advice! It's great that you pointed out how resilience is a learnt behavior. It shows how with work and time it can be achieved. I would say I'm a pretty resilient person, but I could definitely use some improvement on it. I love the "get to" mindset so much! I'm going to be working on looking at things that way from now on.

Hi Gabrielle. You liked one of my IG photos so I thought I’d check out your blog and I’m so glad I did as this post is very timely for me. Resilience is something I’ve had to find in bucket loads over the last four years following a difficult split and divorce. It’s not been easy at times and is a skill I’m still working on. However I realise it’s an essential life skill but most importantly it’s imperative for your mental health and wellbeing. The knock backs we take in life might not always be of our doing but how we react to them is a choice. We can choose to let our mind control us or we can take control of our own mind. I often slip into the former in the beginning but always find myself at the latter eventually. Thanks for the inspiration. Really enjoyed reading. Sharron x
ReplyDeleteHi Sharron, thank you so much for comment; you've no idea how happy I am to know this post has truly helped you! Gabrielle x
