As a general rule, the word 'obsession' tends to have a pretty negative connotation. It's seen as excessive and all-consuming. But it's also obsession that has led to some of the greatest stories, careers and relationships in the world, right? I've been thinking lately about how some of the best and most exciting aspects of my life so far have come from borderline obsession and well, I'm pretty curious to learn about how others feel on the topic now. Ooh, let's discuss...

So, take personal development as an example. Progression. When we want something to happen and I mean really want something to happen, it tends to only happen if we're completely fixated on that one thing. Obsession? Probably. But without that intense focus, maybe that particular thing wouldn't happen? If a person intrudes your mind and becomes a regular thought, it can become love. If an interest does the same, it can become a skill, even a career. And the same applies to learning, working out, social skills and so much more. Funnily enough, it also applies to fashion. The designers who come up with the concepts, the businesses that sell the finished product and the consumers, who adore their new purchases. Speaking of which, I'm completely smitten with these Bulgari sunglasses via Eyewearbrands. My love for Bulgari has bordered on an obsession for many years now and so you can expect to see this frame feature a lot in my upcoming winter looks!

Ever since the idea crossed my mind that maybe, just maybe obsession can be a good thing, I haven't been able to get the thought out of my head. So, my advice? Next time you find yourself completely overwhelmed by the thought of one specific thing, and if that thought is positive and puts you in good place, call it an obsession and be proud of that. It's your passion showing! As you can probably tell, I'm super interested in this topic right now. What's your personal opinion? Can't wait to read your thoughts in the comments below...

I guess it depends on what one is obsessed with? I am obsessed with food and cooking and the whole creativity and challenge in creating the perfect dish for my family. That is a good thing, right? LOL!

Such an interesting post, your thoughts actually really made me think. I've always seen obsession as a negative but as you pointed out it can be used as determination and perseverance. Also love your outfit as always haha

I love your mindset that a positive obsession can be a good thing! Often times obsessions are considered bad but if it's an obsession on something positive, like a certain career, it can actually become motivation. Thank you for the new perspective on obsessions, and I really love this outfit! Those sunglasses look great on you.

I definitely agree with you Gabrielle, in the right setting, obsession can be a fantastic thing! I definitely think that when it's used constructively, obsession can make the world of difference in achieving our goals. Have a lovely week!

I think the line between a healthy and an unhealthy obsession is thin. As you said, if a person enters your mind, it might become love and lead to a happy relationship. Or it might become stalking and lead to many unhappy moments fro both of you. The problem is that we use the same term for both, our language should be more precise there. The German language isn't either.

Such a nice post! I agree with you, obsession can be a good thing! When I'm obsessed with something I feel alive, I have that fuel that pushes me forward and it's nice. :)

I do agree. Most teachers are a bit obsessesed with the subject they are teaching but it is precisely this what makes them able to spark enthusiasm in others.
ReplyDeleteThose Bulgari sunnies are gorgeous! I love their design, it's always elegant....a very sophisticated brand for sure. You look lovely.
I'm loving this post Gabrielle! Being driven by something is great (so long as it is a healthy obsession!) and I can totally understand your Bulgari obsession. These sunglasses are beautiful! I love your fluffy coat too :)

I agree! Obsession can be a good thing as long as it doesn't take over and your start to do yourself harm. What a perfect autumnal outfit, those sunglasses are truly stunning xx

I think obsession can be good if it is healthy as it can be inspiring. However, when its unhealthy and crazy that's when it becomes a problem. I love your posts. Thank you for sharing!

I couldn't agree more with you when comes to the definition of obsession, it has so much more complexity into its true meaning than it seems to be.
ReplyDeleteI love Bulgari, especially some of their scents. You look fabulous and really great location xx

ReplyDeleteThis is such a good post an something I'd never really thought of. It's crazy to think that 'obsession' is a term which has has such strong negative connotations, and yet the root of success tends to be found in obsession. I guess it's all about balance!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing as always by the way, especially in those sunglasses <3

Ha!! I so agree with you. It depends what one is obsessed with. You look effortlessly stylish. That teddy coat is surely on trend. Nice glasses there! :-)

I absolutely love this Gabrielle, such a refreshing way of thinking and you're 100% right - I would never have thought about it like that but when I think of all the things I'd say I'm obsessed with they're all good things that bring me happiness!

I agree that obsession has a positive and negative side to it! The positive side of obsession is really helpful when comitting to a goal I think. It's about developing, staying interested and involved in something you're passionated about. You simply have to have your head in the game! Have a lovely week Gabrielle! Xx

I always try to use the word "obsession" or "obsessed" sparingly, because (God knows it) both have been so overused in the past. But I totally get what you're saying here, Gabrielle - I think there is a room for a good kind of obsession, one that actually helps you go forward in life and why not celebrate that? You look flawless by the way xx

ReplyDeleteLove your Autumn look, this teddy coat is luxe. Obsession is a good thing when it drives you to do something constructive, otherwise if it's on the other side it surely is bad. I'm also driven to do something out of obsession like travelling to new places or taking creative photos. However, I would stop and slow down if things don't run smoothly as I'd like it to be. I like contents like this in your blog, keep going babe!
