Snooze, snooze, snooze. Each new season from H&M would leave me doing a quick 180 in-and-out of the store, nearly always leaving empty handed - besides the odd scrunchie, or two. However, things have changed over the past year and in a big way. A handful of designer collaborations later, combined with trending Instagram 'it pieces', well-known content creators' edits (hello Lydia E Millen in that blue wide-leg jumpsuit) and an array of punchy prints, and the Swedish multi-national clothing-retail company has started creeping back into everyone's good books. And now for more than just the affordable pricing. And you know what? I'm here for it. I'm enjoying watching H&M's evolution from a store of affordable convenience, into a destination experiencing a resurgence of creativity...
Okay, so let's take it back to last Spring, at which point H&M announced they were on their merry way to using 100% sustainable materials, a move which I'm pretty sure every fashionista heaved a sigh of relief at. Next up came their Conscious Collection worldwide launch one month later, showcasing a fabulous range of soft, delicate designs. This theme continued into their Summer '19 collection via the capsule collection 'Riviera Glam' (hello bronzed-up, warm shades). But anyway, let's move onto the collaborations...

Since just May this year, H&M have collaborated with some equally big names; resulting in trending, sold-out collections. There was the Stranger Things collection at the end of Spring, followed by a limited edition collection created with The Laboratory and then, of course, news of the show stopping designer collaboration with Giambattista Valli broke. Remember that shot of Kendall Jenner in the fuchsia pink strapless design? Yeah. A whole other vibe for H&M and one that felt like a definite shift in their vision. Most recently, they've announced a collaboration with electric British brand Richard Allan; launching an edit of designs featuring 'bold designs, abstract patterns and vibrant colours'. I'll admit, this latest collaboration isn't quite my thing due to the sixties vibe, and yet I'm still excited by this release. It's new, it's fresh and it's different. Which is exactly what prompted me to click 'add to bag' on this lemon print puff-sleeved dress earlier this summer. Admittedly, I also fell for the crop top and mini skirt co-ord, however it's this dress that I can confidently crown my summer favourite.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on H&M's creative transition over the past year. Have you visited them online or in-store lately? If so, what do you make of their recent releases? Let me know in the comments below!

I heard bits and bobs about H&M taking things in a new direction, but I didn't go see it for myself! Like you, I would usually walk in and leave, virtually always empty-handed. After reading this, I want to go have a waffle down there asap!!

What a fun dress! I love it for summer, especially with the straw bag. it looks so cute on you!
ReplyDeleteit's always good when a brand tries to be more sustainable, although I haven't been in H&M for a while. I have a bag of ripped / stained clothes I need to take to them for recycling! I love that they have that campaign!
Hope that you had a great weekend :)

The print and silhouette of this dress are fabulous on your Gabrielle! H&M is really moving in the right direction with employing more sustainable processes and their great designer collabs. I picked up a gorgeous dress from their Erdem collab last year.
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with your dress! It's so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in that lemon print dress. Those statement earrings are fab! Lovely bag and sandals as well. Beautiful location and photographs. I didn't know that H&M started using 100 percent sustainable materials, that's definitely a step in the right direction and I'm happy to learn they're becoming more eco-friendly. I remember some really shady things about the way they used to do things from documentary Toxic Clothing so it is definitely good they turned a new page. I'm looking forward to seeing their new creative collection.

I haven't shopped at H&M in awhile but their collaborations lately have been so good! It's nice to see a brand try something new. I am in love with the print of that dress! The lemons are so cute for summer and I love how you styled it with the straw bag. Now I might need to have a browse on H&M's website x

It's great that H&M are having more of an awareness on their footprint and sustainability, which is important! Love your dress! :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about H&M, I have really been able to tell when they switch things up in terms of collabs - they've been in need of a fresh take on things. Obviously good news on the sustainability front too, let's hope more brands do the same. You look amazing as always, I love this print on you <3

This dress is super cute, and doesn't look like something H&M would to - what a surprise! Truth is since I don't shop as much anymore I haven't kept up with the new collections there, but you're making me want to go ASAP and check out there stock. Hopefully their winter stuff will be as good as what they have just now!
