We've all dreamt of it at some point - a side hustle. Something to flex our creative/alternative skills outside of our day job; simultaneously earning some extra pennies! I'm registered as self-employed and so outside of content and copywriting, I started a photographic stream of business a few months ago (the images shown in this post were taken for Luxtra London, a vegan accessory brand). Needless to say, I had not anticipated this pandemic sweeping across the world and creating a lockdown. Oh dear. However, that doesn't mean we have to admit defeat. Nope and nope again. Instead, it means now is the perfect time to launch (or work on) our side hustle, ready for once the world returns to normality. But if you're still not convinced, read on...
One thing is for sure, sharing content here with you on A Glass Of Ice is one of my favourite ways to channel my energy while everything else feels so uncertain. Have you thought about starting a side hustle while on lockdown? Let me know in the comments below!

I mean, it's a lockdown, after all. My guess is we all have a fair bit of extra time to spare, and most likely will continue to have that time for the next few months!

Unless you have a full house, that is. But if you don't then seize the opportunity to make the most of this rare occasion of having little-to-none distractions. For the foreseeable future, nobody will be inviting you out for dinner, your family won't be dropping by and- oh god, I'll just stop there, it's too depressing...

One benefit to staying indoors 24/7 comes with fewer expenses. Instead of saving up and splurging on that new season Celine beach bag, invest any extra pennies into your side hustle!

This is a huge one. If your day job isn't fulfilling in the way you need it to be, then working on a side hustle will definitely give you that sense of purpose you're craving

It's great to have a distraction that requires your focus during these difficult times. Most likely, you're contending with many concerns right now - be them financial, social, health-related. Having a new challenge to channel your energy into could be exactly what you need

I hope your new business picks up again after the pandemic, it's so unfortunate it happened just as you were getting started with being self employed! I am still working from home and try to go on long walks after work, but I am trying to get more photography in :).

I've been thinking the exact same thing recently! We now more than ever have the time to start whatever project we've been dreaming about. For me it's not really a side-hustle, but it's putting more time into my blog and work on it more than I've done before, due to lack of time and motivation. Well done for encouraging us all to start now!

Stuck At Home? Here's What You Can Do To Keep Entertained | https://juliaspeaksbeauty.blogspot.com/2020/03/stuck-at-home-for-weeks-heres-what-you.html
Such a great post and reminder Gabrielle! Someone said that either you've watched all series on Netflix when this is over, or you've improved a skill/started a side hustle/studied something/organized your home. And that really resonated with me. Although I think it's great to enjoy the extra time at home and relax and unwind - there's definitely time to be productive too! Have a great weekend! Xx

I've been having less free time since the epidemic nd now it seems my new working hours are from 6 am to 12 pm (they aren't really but it feels that way). Oh Well. Despite of that, I was thinking about starting a side business and I really enjoyed your tips(if I end up being able to save up something I might give it a try).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs as well.
I absolutely love this post! This is the perfect time to really work on side projects, since there's really no excuse not to. I also love how much I've been saving! I hope you're staying well xx

it's great you are still feeling creative and you are able to use your extra time constructively! With working from home and having to teach the kids with the schools closed I'm not finding I have a lot of free time, but I am noticing that I'm spending less - simply because I'm out at the shops less so I can't just pop in and browse, haha!
ReplyDeleteHope that your weekend is going well :) We are all staying home and staying safe.

I definitely want to start new or forgotten things over this isolation period!! Writing, planning my novel (eek, just want to be able to say I've written a story in my life haha), picking up a new language, and overall, just staying productive is such a positive way to fill the hours xx

Completely agree with you Gabrielle, now is a great time to start something you may have been dreaming about for a while! I'm using this as a chance to find ways to make a bit of money, because why not eh?

Hi Gabrielle. I agree with you. For those of us who have wanted to try our hands at something new, it's time. This lockdown has proven to all of us the multiple streams of income is necessary.

Hey hon, good to see you're still pushing out content during these uncertain times.
ReplyDeleteApart from my office job (well WFH job now), what I was doing before the pandemic and what I'm still trying to do is increase my Instagram following so I can work with more brands. So I'm working on this.
I'm also having SEO sessions with an expert and that's for my blog and the side hustle I want to have in the future...
Have a good week ahead, Xo

Lockdown has definitely removed a lot of distractions I had in my 'normal' life and given me clarity on a few things. I'm just trying to get the balance right between looking after myself and feeling productive at the moment!
