Firstly, sorry for mentioning the dreaded 'C' word. Believe me when I say it won't be popping up very often here on my blog over this time as I want A Glass Of Ice to continue being a destination of relief for readers! Though, there's a very good reason as to why I've chosen to bring it up now. Fashion - and our approach to fashion - is changing. Whether it's for the better or not is up to the individual; which is exactly why I'd love to hear where your head is at right now. Has Covid-19 changed how you feel about fashion? But before we continue, let's just get one thing straight: I'm not preaching 'less' shopping. Instead, I'm pointing out the birth of 'different' shopping...

I've learned more life lessons over the past couple of months than I could possibly count, however for now let's just focus on fashion and the overriding change of habit so many of us are experiencing. I'm focussing on investment accessories. Timeless designs in neutral shades. Instead of adding a dozen different dresses to my summer wardrobe, I'm cherry-picking a few toned-down animal print and broderie anglaise summer dresses (as shown in my try-on ASOS haul over on my new Youtube channel!). As opposed to constantly updating my jewellery collection with cheap earrings that turn green after a few wears, these gorgeous vintage Chanel rope clip-on twist earrings are my new beauties. And to avoid buying a new pair of heels for each occasion to match the hues of the outfit, these versatile nude Moda in Pelle Shore heels have been added to my 'shoedrobe' - complete with faux pearl embellishment at the heel. These days and evenings spent at home have shone a great light on how we can both make the most of what we have already sitting prettily in our wardrobes, as well as add special, timeless pieces into the mix to renew our love for each new season's styling - without declaring bankruptcy in the process!

Another huge revelation during this time, has been how I've become much more interested in gifting fashion to others. More than ever, these times require us to show others just how much they mean to us -and I've found sending pretty little cards and treats (often in the form of fashion) has been a brilliant way of doing exactly this. This also prompted me to start putting together small bags of clothing I no longer appreciate to take to a charity shop once they re-open. Because after all, fashion should be loved and appreciated in the same way you felt upon purchase. If the magic isn't there for you anymore, perhaps it's time to give it a new home?

So, to answer my own question. How I feel about fashion has definitely changed due to Covid-19. My approach to fashion has become a little less selfish, a touch more guided and a tad more sustainable. This topic is of particular interest to me right now and so I'd truly love to hear your thoughts on the topic. Has Covid-10 changed how you feel about fashion? Let me know in the comments below!

That's a beautiful dress on you and those accessories definitely seem like good buys! Aside from a striped tee I picked up for myself online when ordering some winter things for the boys I haven't had the urge to shop for fashion at all. I've been enjoying what I have, and realising I can make a lot of outfits with what I have already. I guess it helps that the only thing I really need to dress for is the school run now the schools are open again, and I can do that pretty casually!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great weekend :) We aren't doing much, staying home and staying warm with that cold winter weather that's here!

That's such a stunning dress!
ReplyDeleteLove these earrings Gabrielle! I have been on a journey of buying less and investing more for awhile now but I think COVID-19 has accelerated that. Hope you're doing well xx

I do like your new approach to fashion and I wish I could do the same. However, I do like variety and also matching colours (especially vibrant hues in summer) way too much. I love your earrings, very elegant xx

Yes to investing in more timeless pieces! So true that this is the way of doing fashion. I miss fashion a lot right now, I feel like I don't dress like I used too. So first thing I'm gonna do is definitely put on a pair of heels and a chic dress. I simply miss getting ready! Xx

Absolutely gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteI think my approach to fashion had already changed before Covid-19, but I think that change has been sped up thanks to it! I'm definitely a more investment, timeless gal over fast fashion these days!

I think I will try to be more mindful with clothes I purchase. And definitely no green jewellery here, I love Monica Vinader. Hope your doing well : ) xo

I've definitely started being more mindful of what I buy, I want pieces that will last a long time but I also need things to be practical too as I live in the countryside, it's a fine line between functional and not looking like I own my own farm!
ReplyDeleteThose Chanel earrings are absolutely beautiful I'd love something similar.

While I've unconsciously never been a part of fast fashion because I buy pieces that I intend on keeping & wearing for a long time, and I don't shop new pieces all that much, I've definitely learned more about fast fashion during this time, and I feel more motivated to keep thrifting & have a healthier attitude towards all of it! I love what you shared--mindfully investing in quality, regifting, etc, are all brilliant ideas xx

I am loving those heels and dress - you look absolutely gorgeous and summer ready! I have a few Ralph Lauren pieces and always feel they're so elegant and classic! I haven't felt the need to keep updating my wardrobe like I usually do, as working from home and even working from the office has been pretty casual. I love the idea of sustainable fashion and brands, and I am always looking for those these days.
ReplyDeleteI've been having fun shopping my closet for a while now so I can't say that coronavirus changed that. I think it made me devote less time to fashion and made me less creative in choosing my outfits. I feel like I don't have the time to have fun with clothes anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! I've actually been on a no buy since February and it coincided with lockdowns and quarantine period! I have been having fun re imagining items found in my closet and creating them in many different outfits thus bringing me to the conclusion that you definitely do not need to keep buying and buying to have more items. Not that we have to stop shopping too - I completely agree with you about buying more investment pieces! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with having too much stuff! Loving the earrings and the shoes by the way!

Love those heels. Lockdown style to me has meant leggings and Ts - no point dressing up to stare at the four walls.
