Odd Molly Maxi Dress 2020

Can we all agree that Autumn literally came from nowhere?!  I fell into the depths of my wardrobe to find a chunky knit or two and came out to find falling leaves and (almost) single digit temperatures.  Am I being dramatic?  Yes, probably.  But that doesn't take away from the fact it's time to switch over our wardrobes!  It's the most frustrating task and yet the most rewarding one.  Make this season the one where you've got your act together and have outfits paired together and ready to go - bye-bye frantic, last-minute wardrobe dashes.  For some reason, I never really embraced maxi dresses this summer.  In fact, it was only towards the end of August this beautiful printed maxi dress found its way into my wardrobe!  One thing is for sure, I'm not ready to kiss goodbye to a piece I've only just embarked on a love affair with.  This leads me to the all-important question: how to style a maxi dress for Autumn?

I'll admit, the imagery is a slight giveaway.  My advice?  Layer your chunkiest knit over the top to update a maxi dress for the Autumn season!  The key is to ensure no part of the upper-dress is visible to avoid ruining the illusion.  Look for thick roll necks and cable knits to ensure an updated look for the colder season, and preferably balloon sleeves to balance the volume of the lower half.  Depending on the print of your maxi dress, opting for a neutral shade for your chunky knit ensures a chic finish and also enables you to add eye-catching metallic jewellery without overloading the look.  Finally, avoid summer sandals at all costs - the chances of this look working with bare toes on show are slim to none.  I've chosen to style the outfit with heeled ankle boots, although riding boots also make a gorgeous option for a relaxed look.
